Businesses in the hospitality sector severely impacted by Hull moving into Tier 2 of Covid-19 restrictions this weekend have been told they may be eligible for financial support.

The Government’s Local Restrictions Support Grant (LRSG) is providing funding to local authorities in the ‘high risk’ category. It is based on the number of hospitality and leisure businesses within an authority’s boundary, including hotels and B&Bs.

There is also a 5 per cent top-up amount that can be used as a discretionary grant to cover other businesses affected by the move to the second tier of restrictions.

Hull City Council is currently awaiting further information from the Government, including full guidance and confirmation of the funding allocation.

Councillor Daren Hale, Portfolio Holder for Investment and Regeneration, said: “These are difficult and challenging times for many businesses. Hull City Council is committed to ensuring the financial support available reaches these businesses as quickly as possible.

“There is information available both on the Government’s and Hull City Council’s websites and I urge any business interested in finding out more about the information available to visit these websites as their first port of call. If they need further information, they should contact our business support team.”

The council’s website, www.hull.gov.uk, is being continuously updated with the latest information, which will include how claims can be made and how they will be processed.

The Government has also announced changes to the Job Support Scheme, effective from November 1, to help employers retain staff. Further information is available on the Government website, www.gov.uk.

The council’s dedicated business support team can be contacted at business.support@hullcc.gov.uk.
