Coming soon: The Hull Story newspaper!

FIRST EDITION: The masthead of the forthcoming Christmas launch edition of Hull’s new free newspaper

By Simon Bristow and Rick Lyon

The Hull Story are delighted to announce the launch of a new and free newspaper for the great city of Hull.

The newspaper, which will run alongside our daily news website, will be published monthly at a volume of 10,000 copies per edition, with the first due to be available at sites across the city later this week.

Like our website, The Hull Story newspaper aims to inform, engage, entertain and nourish, and provides an exciting new platform for our content and contributors as we continue our work with some of the best writers and photographers in the city.

As well as wanting to share our content more widely, we are launching the newspaper because there is digital poverty in Hull and not everyone has access to a smart phone or computer. And as former print journalists we know that reading a newspaper can just be a nice thing to do.

We are also aware that in Hull, as in other towns and cities across the UK, the local media landscape is changing and many traditional outlets are contracting. That is bad for local communities, bad for local businesses, and bad for local democracy.

If you believe, like we do, that local news matters, please consider supporting us at this key stage in our development as we strive to continue our mission of building a credible alternative media platform for Hull and the region.

The best way to do this is to become a Patron of The Hull Story. It costs just £2.50 a month and you can sign up quickly and easily here. This will allow us to continue to provide our journalism free of charge.

We are not part of a media group, we do not have a billionaire owner, and we are not funded by a licence fee. We are a wholly independent publishing venture run by professional journalists from Hull. We hope the city will get behind us.

We hope you enjoy the newspaper. Please get in touch and let us know what you think.

Thank you to all our existing Patrons, partners, contributors and readers.

We will provide more information about where to pick up a copy of The Hull Story shortly.
