Lift-off for space-themed children’s play area

TRANSFORMATION: The Little Astronauts soft play area

By Rick Lyon, Co-Editor

A new children’s play area will open in the old first-floor food court at Prospect Shopping Centre this month.

The space-themed Little Astronauts area will feature futuristic play equipment and has been designed to accommodate children with special educational needs (SEN), including sensory-friendly areas.

The 7,500 sq ft area will have its own dedicated glass lift from the ground floor of the shopping centre, have a capacity of 300 people, and will offer Italian-inspired, family friendly meal options.

Little Astronauts is owned and will be run by Ben and Danielle Roman, who have two sons, William, five, and three-year-old Oliver.

It will open to the public on Monday, November 11.

Ben said: “It’s been a lot of hard work, but it’s been a really enjoyable experience too.

“It’s been fantastic to see the transformation from what it used to be and, hopefully when people see it, they’ll agree it’s something quite special.

“We hope it will have that ‘wow’ factor for parents bringing their children, as we’ve tried to create something truly unique.”

The old food court had been closed for five years and the opening of the children’s play area is part of plans transform Prospect Shopping Centre into a leisure destination, as previously reported by The Hull Story.
