A boy aged 14 has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of a 13-year-old girl who was found stabbed and injured at the side of the A63 near Hessle on Friday.

The girl was discovered at about 6.50am on November 1 with cuts to her neck, abdomen, chest and back.

The boy appeared at a Youth Court sitting at Hull Magistrates’ Court today charged with attempted murder and possession of a bladed article, a Samurai sword.

He confirmed his name and gave his date of birth and address during the 11-minute hearing. Neither he nor the girl can be identified for legal reasons.

District Judge Mark Daley remanded the boy into youth detention accommodation and sent the case to Hull Crown Court, where a further hearing is scheduled to take place on Friday, November 8.

Five other teenagers were arrested in a wooded area nearby on Friday in connection with the incident. Three boys aged 15, 16 and 17, and two girls aged 14 and 15 have since been released from custody on police bail.
