Join our campaign to support Hull’s FREE newspaper
By Simon Bristow and Rick Lyon, Editors
We are very proud to have published the November 2024 print edition of The Hull Story as it’s the newspaper’s first anniversary!
It’s a significant achievement for all involved and a moment to celebrate.
We hope you agree that this, and the 11 papers that came before it, contain interesting, well-told stories about people and events in our great city, good or bad, giving people accurate information and an understanding of what’s happening in the place they call home.
Another source of pride – and one we invite the city to share – is that this newspaper is unique to Hull. No other city has a FREE newspaper of this quality that is produced by a small independent publisher with no outside investment.
The Hull Story is owned and managed by experienced journalists from Hull. It is not part of a larger media organisation, it doesn’t have a billionaire owner and it’s not funded by a licence fee.
That is why we are now asking for help in covering the production and distribution costs of The Hull Story so the newspaper can stay free.
We have launched a crowd-funding campaign through the non-profit charity Chuffed.org, inviting people to help fund another year of The Hull Story. Chuffed.org doesn’t charge fees and allows fundraisers to keep 100 per cent of what they raise.
We believe there is real social value in a free community newspaper, and that it’s good for local democracy too. Not everyone has access to a smart phone or computer, and not everyone can afford to buy a paper. So if you are able to support us please do – you will be helping to maintain a free newspaper so people have access to at least one free source of print news.
Your support can help us continue what this paper has been doing over the last year – fighting for Hull, holding power to account, championing our heroes and good causes and providing high-quality news, features and analysis you won’t find anywhere else.
Donating is easy and our fundraising page can be found here. We’ll also be sharing the link on social media.
So if you’ve picked up a copy of The Hull Story in a café, shop, pub, market, hospital or library, please consider supporting our campaign so the paper will be there next time you call.
Thanks for reading, and thank you to all our contributors, supporters and readers.
