Inner City Sesh: Chiedu Oraka tops the bill
The line-up for this weekend’s Inner City Sesh has been announced and will feature some of the region’s best emerging and established musicians and artists, with rapper Chiedu Oraka topping the bill.
The one-day festival, which takes place in the 15,000-capacity Queens Gardens on Saturday, will host artists across four music stages, and is an alternative to Humber Street Sesh, which was cancelled earlier this year.
Chiedu, Hull’s grime-influenced rapper, headlines the event on the University of Hull Main Stage.
He is making waves in the industry, with BBC Radio 1 airtime and well over three million Spotify streams for the song Darcy.
Chiedu’s lyrics are peppered with references to Hull’s street and party culture.
“I feel proud to say I have created a black music scene in Hull from scratch,” Chiedu said.
Hull band LIFE, the popular post-punk four-piece, will also play the Main Stage. The band are festival veterans with past slots at Leeds, Reading, Latitude, Great Escape, and Glastonbury, as well as European tours and supports to Idles and Slaves.
Endoflevelbaddie, the “original party starter”, will headline the Hull Trains Dead Bod Stage with an electronica set.
Earlier slots will feature city favourites including indie rock queen Yasmin Coe; Fire (The Unstoppable Force); Pearl’s Cab Ride; and Fat Generous - a brand new six-piece funk and soul outfit from Hull.
Post-punk quartet Lumer will headline The Sesh Emerging Stage, supported by Back To Ours and Goodwin Development Trust, whose production volunteers will gain valuable work experience.
This stage features also features new bands, including Priestgate and Cannibal Animal.
Festival director Mark Page said: “We’re really proud of the line-up we’ve put together for this festival.
“Despite a tough 18 months, some of the region’s best bands and acts have flourished creatively and achieved some great recognition.
“To be able to get them all into one field this summer on Saturday will be amazing.”
He added: “Our mission, as always, is to provide as many platforms as we can for the region’s wealth of emerging talent and put them in front of new audiences and help them pave a career in music.”
The Sesh team have joined up with Hull City Council to stage the event.
