CANCELLED: The Humber Bridge Half Marathon will not take place this year

The 2021 Humber Bridge Half Marathon and Fun Run have been officially cancelled for a second year, due to Covid-19.

The announcement was made this afternoon by the Rotary Club of Hull, as the principal organiser of the events, because of the ongoing impact of the pandemic.

The planned events are still four months away and lockdown restrictions are due to start easing, but organisers said they had regrettably been left with no choice.

The Humber Bridge Board has been unable to permit the use of the bridge or its wider estate for large scale events in 2021 as the area is currently being used as a coronavirus testing site.

John Curry, Committee Chair and Event Director for the half marathon and fun run, said: “Anyone who knows our event will understand that the bridge and the surrounding area is a large part of it and we cannot go ahead without this permission - and we support their position.

“This will obviously be disappointing for those runners hoping to take part in 2021. We are hoping that we will be able to offer a virtual alternative and details on this will follow.

“We’d like to thank our event partners MADL, the HEY Smile Foundation, the Humber Bridge Board, LKR Events and all the other companies who support this event.

“Also, our thanks go to the communities of Hessle and Barton-upon-Humber and the volunteers who have supported the event over the years.”
