Tigers treasure trove! Hull City open pop-up museum at Central Library
By Simon Bristow, Co-Editor
Hull City are continuing celebrations of the club’s 120th anniversary by opening a pop-up museum at Central Library.
The Tigers treasure trove is free to view and includes an eclectic collection of artefacts and unique items of memorabilia.
Supporters can trace the tale of the Tigers through an array of vintage kits, boots, trophies, newspapers and programmes in the exhibition room, adorned with artwork charting 120 years of history.
The moments, milestones and people that have helped shape the club’s story are celebrated, including the 11 members of its Hall of Fame, with a nod to the venues City have called home.
Fans can delve deeper into City’s origins over a brew and a biscuit in the library café, bedecked with more captivating articles of Tigers paraphernalia.
Club legends Nick Barmby, Dean Windass and John Hawley joined supporters, including members of the 120 Steering Group who have helped formulate the birthday celebrations, at an exclusive launch event on Tuesday.
Hull City chief operating officer Joe Clutterbrook said: “We are excited to launch our pop-up museum exhibition and I would like to thank everyone involved in piecing this important project together.
“There has been a desire to improve how we honour the club’s history, spearheaded not least by the Tigers Trust and the Senior Tigers in recent years, and this project is another example of that.
“Our dedicated team has worked tirelessly to bring the idea to life and we are extremely grateful to the 120 Steering Group for their contribution.
“We would also like to say a huge thank you to Councillor Mike Ross [city council leader], Hull City Council and Hull Central Library for allowing us to host our heritage exhibition in the heart of the city for supporters of all generations to enjoy.”
He added: “The wide variety of items on display are sure to bring back memories to fans who lived through those eras and educate younger supporters of our roots.
“The football club has been a cornerstone of the community for 120 years and the Tigers’ story is one worth sharing and celebrating to the fullest degree.”
The exhibition can be viewed from Monday to Saturday until June 2025.
