Mary and the Hyenas
Hull Truck Theatre
Feb 7-Mar 1
£10-£29
Six microphones and one electrifying musical score.
Meet Mary and the Hyenas, six performers who step up to the mic to transport you through the life of British writer, philosopher, and feminist icon Mary Wollstonecraft.
Be taken back in time and experience the astonishing life of a trail blazer and literary pioneer. A woman centuries ahead of her time - raised in Beverley and known across the world!
From her enthusiastic advocacy for women’s rights, to her involvement in the French Revolution, Mary and the Hyenas captures the spirit and resilience of a woman who dared to take a stand. This is a witty, laugh out loud and searing tribute to the courage and determination of Mary’s lifelong fight for equality and justice. A plight which was continued by her own trailblazing daughter, esteemed gothic novelist Mary Shelley.
Jam packed with music and words of defiance and empowerment, join the ensemble cast on a whirlwind journey through history, sweeping us up in the birth of feminism as told through the eyes of a petticoat wearing pioneer and her friends. Join Mary and The Hyenas as they rip up the rulebook and fight for their right to be heard!
“I do not wish women to have power over men; but over themselves.” – Mary Wollstonecraft

Hull New Theatre
Feb 4-8
£18.50-£46
Get ready to relive the playlist of your life at the brand new British musical, NOW That’s What I Call A Musical.
Celebrating 40 years of the iconic and chart-topping compilations NOW That’s What I Call Music, which have sold over 200 million copies worldwide, this fun filled evening is bursting with 1980’s hits from Whitney Houston, Wham! Blondie, Tears For Fears, Spandau Ballet and so many more.
Written by award-winning comedian Pippa Evans, and directed by Strictly Come Dancing legend Craig Revel Horwood, this heart-warming and funny story takes us on an uplifting journey down memory lane.
It’s Birmingham, 1989. Two school friends, Gemma and April, are busy with particularly important business – planning their lives based on Number One Magazine quizzes and dreaming of snogging Rick Astley. Cut to Birmingham 2009 and it’s the most dreaded event of their lives– the school reunion. Drama, old flames and receding hairlines come together as friends reunite and everything from the past starts to slot into place. The biggest question is: what was with all that hairspray?
So, dust off your spandex, get your crimper out and press play and record at the same time. An unbeatable soundtrack, show stopping choreography and an original story – NOW That’s What I Call A Musical.
