Freedom Festival is Hull’s award-winning international arts festival. From epic spectaculars unfolding in the city centre to intimate moments where audiences and artists meet, it presents thought-provoking, playful and powerful performances in public spaces that address the world we live in.
Freedom Festival Arts Trust brings thousands of people together through its annual festival and year-round artistic and creative programme of performances, installations and community participation to excite, inspire, challenge and provoke.
Inspired by the reformist legacy of William Wilberforce, it builds local, national and international alliances to create cultural experiences that have something to say about universal values and the future we want to make together.

It’s going to be a pre-historic day in Hull city centre!
The event will be packed full of activities and exhibits. Visitors will have the chance to get up close and personal with a giant T-Rex, velociraptor, spinosaurus, dilphosaurus and baby dinosaurs.
Activities also include free face painting, a colouring competition with dinosaur prizes, dinosaur-related exhibitors and much more.

2024’s festival will showcase over 100 acts, shining a light on regional emerging artists and musicians, as well as some aspirational acts from further afield invited to join the event’s milestone celebration.
British Chess Championships

The ECF is pleased to announce that this year’s British Chess Championships will be held at Hull City Hall and the DoubleTree by Hilton Hull, with events running from Thursday, July 25 to Sunday, August 4, across the two city centre venues.
This year’s championships are being supported by Hull and East Riding Chess Association, Hull City Council, Hull Culture and Leisure and Visit Hull and East Yorkshire.
Hull Folk & Maritime Festival

HFMF is organised by Folk in Hull, a registered charity that also hosts related events such as the popular maritime concerts and pop-up buskers’ gigs.
A number of its members work with schools and other community groups to help keep the folk tradition alive.
