‘Our top target at left-back’: Vinagre joins Tigers on season-long loan from Sporting CP

Hull City have signed left-back Rúben Vinagre on a season-long loan from Portuguese side Sporting CP.
The 24-year-old, who is equally adept at wing-back, brings experience of playing in the Championship, Premier League, Portuguese and Greek top divisions, Champions League and Europa League.
More than half of his 116 career appearances came at Wolverhampton Wanderers, playing nine league games during their 2017/18 Championship title triumph.
The versatile defender helped Wolves secure successive seventh-placed top-flight finishes and scored twice during their run to the 2019/20 Europa League quarter-finals.
The left-sider was loaned to Greek champions Olympiacos and Primeira Liga sides Famalicão and Sporting, where he lifted the Taça da Liga in 2021/22.
An Under-17 and Under-19 European Championship winner with Portugal, Vinagre joined the Lions permanently in July 2022 and spent last season on loan at Everton.
Tigers head coach Liam Rosenior said: “Rúben has been our first target at left-back for a long time now. He’s got unbelievable pedigree, won promotion at this level and played numerous games in the Premier League.
“He gives us real experience and completely fits into our playing philosophy. He’s comfortable on the ball, can start off our build-up play and has good final-third end product. He’s a quick and aggressive defender, a great athlete and an all-round left-back.
“We want players who have been at the level we’re aspiring to and I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring someone of Rúben’s calibre to the club.”
