Trinity Market full for the first time in its 117-year history
Hull’s Trinity Market is at full capacity for the first time in its history.
The indoor market has been home to a range of independent businesses in the city’s Old Town for 117 years.
The market has changed significantly over the decades and is now recognised as a diverse and all-inclusive community, offering cuisines from across the world, freshly baked bread, bike repairs and much more.
Lucy Lines, Trinity Market Manager, said: “A market is a crucial part of a city’s community - a meeting place, a feasting place, a place to buy necessities, gifts and also treat yourself.
“The market’s food hall alone can provide something for all tastes and dietary requirements, and allows for the convenience of a group all being able to eat a different meal.
“The curation of such a diverse market is an ever-evolving job. The market is a great place to start up for independent businesses before they move to larger premises, but it is also a great place to stay and call home - some of our traders have been based in the market for more than 40 years.
“Trinity Market is our supermarket of the city centre. You can buy everything from bread, meat and vegetables, to shoelaces, chocolate, washing powder, toothpaste, bath bombs, clothing and vinyl.
“With city centre living expanding, the market’s accessibility and diversity plays a core role in the city’s life.
“Trinity Market at full capacity has been a long-term goal and we are thrilled to have accomplished it.”
Councillor Daren Hale, the new leader of Hull City Council, said: “Trinity Market is a remarkable success story, and stands as evidence of Hull’s incredible creative and independent community.
“We’ve seen all types of independent businesses make the market their home and contribute something new, fresh and exciting to the city - and long may it continue.
“It’s an incredibly exciting time for the Old Town, with ongoing investment evident all over the area, and Trinity Market continues to play a vital role in the Old Town regeneration.”
Trinity Market underwent a multi-million-pound investment in 2017, before the new look was unveiled in 2018.
The refurbishment improved facilities and the space for existing businesses, and also enticed new traders to the market. The refurbishment also meant the market could be used as an events space.
