Boxing hero Tommy Coyle is seeking answers after his father’s fruit stall was apparently set on fire in Hull city centre last night.
A video posted on social media by the boxer this morning shows firefighters tackling the blaze in a smoke-filled Jameson Street with flames visible within the stall.
In a post accompanying the video on X, formerly Twitter, Tommy said: “REWARD FOR INFO – Last night somebody set my Daddy’s Fruit Stall on fire and burnt it to the ground. I’m not interested in retaliation but I want an explanation. Should anybody know anything or heard anything please contact me.”
An incident log by Humberside Fire and Rescue Service says the fire occurred at 10.35pm.
The log states: “Fire involving market stall marquee in centre of city. Crews extinguished using one hose reel. Incident left with the Police.”
Tommy added: “The fruit stall is simply a hobby and ran in memory of our Father. The stall tackle and display was more than 20 years old dating back to when we started on Boulevard, Hessle Rd. We’re absolutely devastated.”
A spokeswoman for Humberside Police said: “We were called to reports of a shop and a wheelie bin on fire on Jameson Street in Hull at around 10.45pm last night (Monday 1 July).
“The fire was extinguished and thankfully nobody was injured as a result of the incident.
“Enquiries are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire, and we would appeal to anyone that witnessed the incident, or anyone with information or CCTV footage that may assist with enquiries, to contact us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 597 of 1 July.”
