Police investigating the fatal stabbing of Hull man Corey Dobbe have arrested two people on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

A third person has also been arrested. All three have been released under investigation.

Humberside Police declined to state the ages or genders of those arrested, or what offence the third person was suspected of committing.

“This is not something we are able to provide comment on as a part of the living ongoing investigation,” a spokesperson said.

The information was released in response to a series of questions from The Hull Story to Detective Chief Inspector Alan Curtis, who is leading the inquiry.

Asked if there had been any arrests, he said: “Three people have been arrested as part of the investigation, with two being arrested for [on suspicion of] conspiracy to murder.

“All three have been released under investigation as we continue our enquiries.”

Mr Curtis said several witnesses had come forward and given accounts to the investigation team.

He praised the public for their “fantastic” response to appeals for information to assist the investigation.

On the help the community has provided, he said: “The public response has been fantastic and we have had lots of calls and enquiries via our MIPP [major incident public portal] site. We just need more information about the location of our suspect.”

The focus of the investigation appears to remain on identifying and tracing a man caught on CCTV, whose picture was released by police on June 15.

Asked why he was of interest, Mr Curtis said: “We want to speak to him in connection with the murder of Corey Dobbe.”

Mr Curtis declined to answer further questions that were put to him about this man for operational reasons.

Speaking at the time the image was released, he said: “The man shown in these CCTV images is shown with a white hooded sweatshirt on, white trousers and trainers.

“Someone knows who this man is and where his is. We urgently want help from the public to identify and to speak to him about the incident.

“At this stage we don’t know if he is local or has travelled to the city from elsewhere.  Our enquiries are widespread and would ask for people to share this appeal to reach as widely as possible.”

In a further appeal for information on Monday, the officer spoke of his frustration that the man had not been traced, and said he believed he had “vital information” relating to the murder.

“Corey’s family deserve to know what happened and by finding him we will be able to give them the answers they are seeking,” Mr Curtis said.

Police are working tirelessly on the investigation, which has involved a team of 170 staff and officers reviewing more than 200 hours of CCTV footage.

The inquiry has also involved underwater and specialist search teams, intelligence officers, and crime scene investigators working alongside detectives.

Corey’s family and partner have spoken of their loss and also urged people to come forward with information. His girlfriend, Zoe, said: “Please help us to find the coward who killed the love of my life.”

Mr Dobbe, 23, suffered fatal stab wounds in an incident in Harleston Close, east Hull, on Sunday, June 13.

Emergency services were called at 7.10pm to reports of a stabbing, and although Corey was treated at the scene he died a short time later.
