CORDON: The scene of the ‘pre-planned’ police operation in Park Grove

Residents in four west Hull streets have been evacuated as part of a “pre-planned” police operation.

The drama began to unfold just after 3pm today when a police cordon was placed at both ends of Cave Street and Park Grove.

A tighter cordon, marked out by police tape, was then placed in a block halfway up Park Grove, as officers began knocking on doors advising residents to leave the area.

This was then extended to Sycamore Court and Convent Court. Some residents leaving in a car from The Parade, which backs onto both courts, were told they could not return if they travelled outside the cordon, they said.

Rumours circulated among neighbours about a “device” being found.

But in a statement, a spokeswoman for Humberside Police said: “Officers are in attendance at an address in Park Grove, Hull, as part of a pre-planned operation.

“A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and remains in our custody at this time.

“Specially trained officers remain in the area as part of the enquiry and a cordon is in place to ensure the safety of the public.”
