By Rick Lyon

Detectives investigating the murder of Jason Whincup believe he may have been the victim of a “targeted attack”.

Jason, 47, suffered fatal stab wounds when he was attacked on Hessle Road at around 8.40am on Wednesday, August 31. He was taken to hospital for treatment but died from his injuries on Friday, September 2.

Four people have been arrested in connection with his death, but no-one has been charged so far.

Humberside Police have circulated a CCTV image of a cyclist they want to trace.

The force has also now set up a dedicated online portal that anyone with information can use to report what they know.

APPEAL: Police want to speak to this man

Detective Chief Inspector Nicole Elliot, the senior investigating officer [SIO] in the case, said: “I want to thank everyone who has contacted us with information about the CCTV image we released, and I would continue to appeal for anyone with information that could help with our enquiries to please get in touch.

“We now have set up a reporting portal which gives a direct link to the Major Incident Team to report any information.

“At this time, and from the information we have so far, we do believe this could have potentially been a targeted attack and I want to offer my assurance that we have a dedicated team working significant hours on the investigation and carrying out numerous enquiries, in a bid to find who is responsible.”

The online portal to report any information can be accessed here.

Anyone who can help the investigation can also call the non-emergency number 101, quoting log 86 of August 31.
