A Millwall fan has been banned from attending football matches for three years after punching a man before a game at Hull City, Humberside Police said.
John Cornford, 31, of Nelgarde Road, London, “punched” a man in the face in Anlaby Road, west Hull, after travelling to the city on Monday, April 10.
Cornford has now been banned from attending any football match in the UK for three years after pleading guilty to public order offences, possession of cannabis, and failure to appear at court, Humberside Police said on Twitter.
Police Constable Wilson [first name not given], Dedicated Football Officer for Hull City, said in the post: “The result here shows that it is not just our home supporters who get investigated for football-related offences.
“It sends a strong message that if away fans commit offences at football matches in our force area, Humberside Police will investigate and seek to issue Football Banning Orders where appropriate.
“Football should be an opportunity for people tlo come together over a mutual love for the sport, and anyone who looks to disrupt that will be dealt with robustly.”
As well as being issued with a three-year banning order, Cornford was also ordered to do 100 hours of unpaid work, was fined £85, and must pay a victim surcharge of £114.
