By Rick Lyon, Co-Editor

Resurfacing works are set to begin to improve footpaths in the city.

Essential improvement works by Hull City Council will take place on Barrington Avenue, Chanterlands Avenue, Fitzroy Street, Hardwick Street and Harpings Road from next week.

The improvement scheme will involve resurfacing areas of the footpaths which have deteriorated.

Works are scheduled to begin on Monday, September 16, and are expected to take approximately 20 weeks to complete, weather permitting.

The work will be carried out in separate phases on the following dates:

  • Monday, September 16 to Friday, September 27 – Barrington Avenue, from Edith Cavell Court to Kenilworth Avenue

  • Friday, September 27 to Thursday, October 17 – Chanterlands Avenue (southeast), from Allderidge Avenue to Bricknell Avenue

  • Friday, October 18 to Friday, November 22 – Chanterlands Avenue (west), from Westbourne Avenue west to Lynton Avenue

  • Monday, November 18 to Tuesday, December 3 – Full length and both sides of Fitzroy Street

  • Friday, December 6 to Friday, December 13 – Hardwick Street (east), from Thoresby Street to Clumber Street

  • Monday, January 6 to Monday, February 3 – full length and both sides of Harpings Road.

Footpaths will be closed during the works and there will be some parking restrictions in place, though access will be maintained for residents at all times.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transportation, roads, and highways at the city council, said: “These works are essential to repair and maintain the surface of the footpaths to stop them falling into poor condition.

“My main focus is ensuring all footpaths are safe within the city, and I know that residents will welcome the smooth new surfaces once they are completed.

“This scheme also aligns with our broader Community Plan for Hull to create safe and welcoming neighbourhoods for our residents.

“I would like to thank all residents for their patience and understanding while we carry out these works.”
