Loudhailer to headline Adelphi gig for refugees

Hull-based psychedelic rock band Loudhailer Electric Company will blast out a commitment to safety and compassion with a gig to raise money for a local refugee charity.
The band’s show at the New Adelphi Club, De Grey Street, Hull on Friday, December 13 is in support of Hull Help for Refugees (HHfR), a grassroots collective of individuals who wish to aid refugees in the current humanitarian crisis.
Loudhailer drummer Dave Burnby said: “The band initiated this gig following concern over the plight of refugees in the city and particularly following on the from the disgraceful scenes in the city in August and the intimidation and attacks on Muslims and asylum seekers.
“All this comes as we face the biggest humanitarian crisis since the Second World War and we want to highlight the true nature of our city as a place of safe refuge and its compassion for people in struggle.
“HHfR is a volunteer-run organisation at the front line of providing practical help, advice and support for refugees in Hull and further afield and we are delighted to be able to support them in this way.”
Hull based singer-songwriter Jody McKenna will be opening on the night with a selection of his highly acclaimed acoustic music. Sierra Leone-born musician Cecil Jones, now based in Hull, will make a guest appearance.
Dave said: “From the Loudhailer Electric Company, expect original psychedelic sounds, an eclectic blend of rebel rock from across the ages, with tacit nods to garage punk, psychedelia, Americana and acid folk/rock. Listen up for songs telling stories of road trips, myths and legends and sci-fi. The band will be featuring old favourites and some new material.”
Door open at 7pm. Advance tickets costing £5 are available from the Adelphi website or entry is £8 on the door. Additional donations are warmly encouraged.
