A sixth-generation family business in Hessle has been shortlisted in three categories at the Yorkshire and Humberside Family Business Awards 2022.

John Good Group, which was formed in 1833, are finalists in the Haulage and Logistics, Best Social Impact, and Employee of the Year categories.

A record number of 186 businesses from across the region entered this year’s awards.

Darren Howden, from John Good Group, is in the running for the Employee of the Year award, having gone “above and beyond” for the business over the last 12 months, including in its transition to its new building at Hesslewood Office Park.

“It’s a lovely gesture to be nominated for Employee of the Year, and it feels great to be recognised within the region,” Darren said.

Adam Walsh, John Good Group CEO, said: “We're delighted to be finalists for three categories this year. I'm especially thrilled to see Darren make it to the finalists for Employee of the Year. The whole team finds him a pleasure to work with, and I firmly believe he will grow with and continue to be a pivotal part of the John Good Group’s success.”

Sue Howorth, Family Business Awards Co-Founder and Director, said: “We were inundated with some incredible entries and we have been burning the midnight oil to get through them as they came in right up to the wire. The judges had extremely difficult decisions to make, so the finalists should be extremely proud of themselves.”

The finalists will now receive a visit from a panel of expert judges before the winners are announced in a ceremony at Headingley Stadium in Leeds on November 11.
