Hundreds attend Humberside Police recruitment event

More than 400 people attended a major recruitment event held by Humberside Police.
The force is aiming to recruit additional officers and staff across a range of different departments and areas of policing.
The event at its state-of-the-art Melton 2 facility, on Melton West Business Park, was the first of its kind held by Humberside that was open to the general public.
It included stands and interactive demonstrations to highlight the many and varied roles available with the force.
Attendees were able to find out more about the criteria to join and the benefits of a career in policing, and were able to fill out an application.
Katie Hayton, Talent Acquisition Manger at Humberside Police, said: “We held an event previously that was more focused on those individuals who’d already engaged with us about pursuing a career in policing, but this was the first event we’d openly promoted to the general public.
“We were highlighting the many staff positions, as well as officer roles. There’s so much more to policing than people often realise, and we wanted to highlight the variety of different opportunities there are.”
Roles promoted at the event included in the force control room, finance, businesses and administration, learning and development, evidential property, witness care and corporate communications.
“The turnout was absolutely fantastic,” said Katie. “We had a real diverse mix of people attend, of different backgrounds and ages, including some more mature applicants looking for a change of career.
“We’re a big employer, for both police officer and police staff roles, so it’s important we promote these opportunities to people across the region.
“There are obviously different skillsets and experiences required, depending on the role, but in general we’re looking for people who are team players with a good attitude. It’s a police family, and we want people who’ll fit into that.”
Humberside was last year rated the best of all the 43 forces in England and Wales by independent watchdog His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS).
HMICFS graded Humberside as “outstanding” in six out of nine categories in a report released in November.
