Community radio station West Hull FM has relaunched as Humber Wave Radio.

It has been broadcasting as West Hull FM 106.9FM since 2007, after becoming the first community station in the region to gain a license, and has now relaunched as a Digital Audio Broadcast (DAB) platform.

The rebrand to Humber Wave Radio reflects the fact it is now covering a wider area of Hull and Beverley.

Managing director Adey Wright said: “As the region’s biggest community station, we have benefitted from other broadcasters pulling out of the city, or in the case of the BBC, reducing staff costs in favour of their internet platforms.

“Our service broadcasts 24-hours-a-day and touches more places than ever before. Our new digital radio platform increases this reach even further.

“We all know the future is digital, and we are excited to once again be pioneers in broadcasting the first truly local digital service to Hull, East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire as Humber Wave Radio.”

The station is supported by a team of amateur and professional radio presenters.

As well as talk, news, sport and local information, it plays hits from the 60s through to today’s music.

Humber Wave Radio technical director Richard Moore said: “We have been a springboard for some great radio talent over the years.

“We welcome anyone who would like to try their hand at broadcasting to get in touch. It doesn’t matter if you are young, old, or have any previous experience, as we provide full training. All you need to provide is the enthusiasm and desire to reach out to the community.”
