INCREASING CAPACITY: Hull Trains

Hull Trains is adding new journeys to its timetable to meet passenger demand.

The operator, which began steadily reintroducing services from December 3, will run 34 trains over the festive period to increase capacity and support social distancing onboard.

The extra trains will run between December 19 and 24, and from January 4 to 8, making it easier for passengers to plan their journey and travel during off-peak times.

Managing director Louise Cheeseman said: “We recognise that not everyone wants to travel during this time, but for those who do, we are making it as easy as possible for people to travel safe.

“There has been a high demand for our services so we are bringing in extra trains on more popular travel days which are 19 to 24 December, and between 4 and 8 January 2021.

“More trains mean more space for social distancing and we are asking passengers to do their bit by planning ahead and travelling during off-peak times.

“Other safety measures we have onboard include clearly labelled seats to manage social distancing, extra cleaners on every journey, and a live train tracker tool, which lets people check how busy the train is in real time.”

She added: “We have a robust action plan to make it as easy as possible for people to travel safely with us during the Christmas and new year period. As part of our resumption plan, we continuously monitor demand from passengers and we can quickly bring in new services when there is an appetite.”

Due to major engineering works, London’s King's Cross Station will be closed between Boxing Day and December 30. Hull Trains is not running services on those days. There is an amended timetable on December 24 and 31, and on January 1.

Full timetable details and tickets for travel will be available to book on the Hull Trains website or app this week
