Ice hockey team Hull Seahawks have unveiled the locally based global health and nutrition company Reckitt as title sponsors for the 2023/24 season.

Reckitt has partnered with the Championship National Ice Hockey League (NIHL) team on a one-year deal that will see the company take naming rights of the team – the Hull Reckitt Seahawks.

The global headline sponsors were at the team’s pre-season fan meet and greet.

Dr Bruce Charlesworth, Reckitt chief medical officer and Hull campus lead, said: “I’m delighted to announce that Reckitt has chosen to sponsor the Hull Seahawks for the 2023/24 season. Ice hockey is growing in popularity and like Reckitt, our local team has a strong Hull heritage – ours being the Reckitt family and theirs the early Humberside Seahawks days.

“We are very excited about the upcoming season and our new relationship. Ice hockey is a fast-paced game that’s great to watch and play at all levels, with a grass roots foundation that’s linked to healthy living and exercise. We believe this is a partnership that supports the city, helps a community venue, raises the profile of Reckitt, and provides a staff benefit.”

Seahawks directors Joe Lamplough and Matty Davies said: “We are both delighted to be partnering with Reckitt as our title sponsor for the 2023/24 season. This opportunity allows the Hull Seahawks to expand the club and local community in a very exciting manner.

“We’re very much looking forward to working together in expanding the Reckitt name as much as possible within the club as a lot of people are unaware of the global impact Reckitt has. We’re looking forward to welcoming Reckitt employees to our home games to enjoy and soak in the unique atmosphere at the Hull Ice Arena on a match night – trust us when we say there will be some very entertaining games this upcoming season.

“The partnership will allow us to expand our community projects, such as visiting local schools to offer hockey lessons to keep kids active and giving them guidance on having a healthy and active lifestyle both in and outside of school. And to offer youngsters the opportunity to come and watch the Seahawks to inspire the next generation into, what we feel, is the most underrated indoor sport within the UK.

“At our jersey launch and fun day event we revealed our new league and retro-themed cup jerseys brandishing the Reckitt name front and centre, which were extremely well received from the fans on the day and on social media following the event. It’s a very positive environment currently within the Seahawks camp and we’re looking forward to what this season has to offer on and off the ice.”

Reckitt has called Hull home for more thanr 182 since brothers Isaac and Thomas Reckitt moved to the city from Lincoln and launched their first product, laundry starch. From 25 employees in 1840 to over 45,000 globally today, Reckitt products include iconic household brands including Gaviscon, Nurofen, Air Wick, Veet, Finish and Dettol, the latter which celebrates its 90th anniversary this year.
