Be part of a remarkable team: Hull Hospitals creates 30 new roles for dedicated & caring people

Recruitment drive for intermediate care support workers at ultra-modern facility

Advertorial

How would you like to work in Hull’s first ultra-modern and well-equipped care facility offering fantastic job satisfaction with one of the city’s largest employers?

Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (HUTH) is investing £3.8m in the Paragon Intermediate Discharge Suite for people well enough to be discharged from hospital but still requiring care and support.

And it’s launching a major recruitment drive to find 30 committed and dedicated individuals to take up the newly created roles of intermediate care support workers at the Paragon Suite.

Exercise practitioner Rob Nurse, who looks after people awaiting social care packages before their discharge from hospital, says intermediate care support workers are a crucial part of the rehabilitation team.

Duties include the delivery of therapeutic interventions, supporting mobility, providing nutrition and hydration, and moving and handling as well as looking after hygiene needs.

Rob said: “Theirs is a dual role with elements of nursing and therapy, helping people regain or maintain functions like walking and feeding themselves.

“While they can assist and be an extra pair of hands for nursing tasks, they also contribute to therapy plans so people are able to maintain their functions.

“Under the supervision of occupational therapists and physiotherapists, we work together to make sure a person can maintain as much as they can do or regain what they were able to do.

“Ultimately, this work makes it easier for people to regain their independence or have less social care intervention in the future.”

Former patients at Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital will move into the Paragon Suite to continue their journey back to health while they await social care packages.

Some will be given social care support, allowing them to return to living independently in their own homes, while others will stay in the facility until they move into supported accommodation or care homes.

The specialist care facility on the site of the former helipad in Gladstone Street, off Anlaby Road, includes a dedicated therapy space and separate dining area where intermediate care support workers will help people’s journeys back to health.

Upholding HUTH’s commitment to excellent patient care and joining its 10,000+ strong workforce, the intermediate care support workers will undergo specialist training to allow them to support the work of HUTH’s nursing staff and therapists.

Successful candidates, will be the friendly face linking patients and families with clinical teams, communicating vital and often sensitive information in an empathetic and caring way.

These 30 roles are a fantastic chance to join an organisation which prides itself on recruiting Remarkable People to work in an Extraordinary Place.
