Fundraiser a piece of cake for Hull College students

CHARITY EVENT: Members of the Hull College fundraising team at its Macmillan Coffee Morning

By Rick Lyon

Students and staff from Hull College have raised hundreds of pounds with a Macmillan Coffee Morning.

The Macmillan Coffee Morning is an annual tradition that unites people across the UK in support of the Macmillan Cancer Support charity.

This year, Hull College’s Beauty Therapy and Nail Enhancements students, supported by tutors Amanda Reeve and Emma Wray, held its event, offering a selection of freshly made cakes, biscuits, teas and coffees.

In addition, the event featured a twist, with glitter tattoos offered by Beauty students adding a touch of sparkle to the day.

In total, the event raised £339.69, which will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support to aid its vital work in providing care, support, and information to those affected by cancer.

The event also served as a valuable learning opportunity for all students involved, enabling them to work on and develop crucial life skills such as team-working, organisational and communication skills.

Assistant head of the Institute of Hospitality and Lifestyle Kerry Wray, who co-ordinated the event alongside the students, said: “We were absolutely thrilled with the success of our Macmillan Coffee Morning.

“The whole event showcased the incredible spirit, unity and generosity in place at Hull College and we are immensely proud of our students for their dedication and hard work in organising and executing this event.

“Not only did we raise an impressive sum for Macmillan Cancer Support, but our students had the chance to put their newly acquired skills into practice.

“It was heart-warming to see the entire college community come together to support such a vital cause. Cancer unfortunately affects most families in one way or another. We wanted to do our bit by taking part in this huge event, raising funds and awareness of the fantastic work done by all at Macmillan Cancer Support.”
