1904: Hull City launch limited edition kit to celebrate 120th anniversary
By Simon Bristow, Co-Editor
Hull City will wear a commemorative kit for the club’s anniversary match against Cardiff City tomorrow to mark 120 years of the Tigers.
The limited-edition all-black kit with gold detailing was modelled by club legends at a special photoshoot at the city’s historic Guildhall and will be worn by the team on Saturday, September 28.
First team coach Andy Dawson and captain Lewie Coyle were accompanied by Garreth Roberts, Brian Marwood, Justin Whittle, Ken Wagstaff, David Meyler and Curtis Davies at the 120th anniversary shoot.
Supporters can get their hands on the bespoke new strip from 9am today, with just 1,904 on sale. Match-worn player shirts will also be made available for fans to purchase.
A host of activities are planned to celebrate the Tigers’ landmark season and honour the club’s proud history.
Some of the most influential figures from City’s past will be returning to the MKM Stadium for the Cardiff clash to take part in a legends parade ahead of kick-off.
Wagstaff, Whittle, Frankie Banks, Brian Horton and Peter Taylor are among the illustrious names who will be introduced to the fans before the game.
The dressing room area has been given a complete revamp in line with the club’s heritage numbers project, listing all 1,162 players to have represented the Tigers since the club’s formation in 1904.
A commemorative 120-page edition of the official matchday programme will be on sale around the ground, packed with exclusive interviews and historical features with City icons past and present.
In collaboration with Hull City Council, the club will also be opening a pop-up museum exhibition at Hull Central Library in October to display items of memorabilia including vintage shirts, boots and trophies.
The club has worked closely with the 120 Steering Group – consisting of individual fans and representatives of supporter groups – to formulate plans for the birthday celebrations.
Official community partner KCOM will also be at the MKM Stadium to celebrate their 120th anniversary in tandem with the Tigers.
Joe Clutterbrook, chief operating officer at Hull City, said: “The stunning design of our 120-year anniversary kit is a fitting way to mark this important milestone in the history of our football club.
“It is only appropriate that we celebrate some of the most revered former players and managers that have contributed to some of the club’s most significant moments.
“I would like to place on record my thanks to the 120 Steering Group for their valuable input into this project and putting forward their ideas on how best to celebrate the anniversary.
“We are proud of our history, our city, and hope our supporters enjoy the nostalgia of reliving previous eras and exploring the many artefacts associated with the Tigers.”
