Cream of the crop: Hull BID Awards 2023 shortlist announced

‘IT’S A HIGH CALIBRE FIELD’: Kathryn Shillito, Hull BID executive director

By Simon Bristow

The cream of the Hull city centre business community will be aiming to get the new year off to a flying start as they challenge for the 2023 Hull Business Improvement District (Hull BID) Awards.

Nearly 300 Hull BID member businesses submitted applications and the judges have now revealed their shortlist of fewer than 30 still standing. There are three finalists in each of the ten categories, and some are hoping for double success.

Kathryn Shillito, Hull BID executive director, said: “This is our ninth year of Hull BID Awards and we've been blown away by the number of quality entries from BID member businesses, demonstrating the prestige which is now associated with winning a Hull BID award.

“The variety of entrants crosses all sectors, and I know the independent judging panel had a very hard job shortlisting from such a high calibre field, and then choosing the eventual winners.

“The celebration dinner will be spectacular and gives us all the perfect opportunity to celebrate city centre businesses in what continue to be challenging times.”

HOSTS: BBC Radio Humberside reporter Amanda White and presenter Phil White

The dinner will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Ferensway, Hull, on Friday January 27, 2023, with BBC Radio Humberside reporter Amanda White and presenter Phil White again bringing their professional polish to the hosting duties.

Sectors represented on the shortlist include retail, hospitality, personal services, professional services, leisure, culture, travel and charities.

All finalists will receive four complimentary tickets to the ceremony where they can enjoy a three-course meal with wine. Many businesses are taking advantage of the discounted price of £40 plus VAT each to snap up additional tickets for colleagues, customers and other contacts.

Kathryn said: “Ever since our first Hull BID Awards, demand for tickets has always been very high and this time we expect it to be better than ever. We have a fantastic venue where we know we will be looked after to the highest standards, and we know from experience that the priority for all the candidates is to have an amazing night out where everyone is a winner.”
