A man is fighting for his life after being stabbed in Hessle Road this morning.

Humberside Police said the man was injured following an “altercation” at about 8.40am. He is now being treated in hospital.

The force said: “Officers are currently in attendance on Hessle Road, Hull, following reports of an altercation at approximately 8.40am this morning.

STANDING GUARD: Police said they will have a high presence in the area into this evening

“Upon attending a man was found to have suffered stab wounds. He was immediately taken to hospital to receive medical treatment for his injuries, which are believed to be life threatening at this time.”

Detective Inspector Andy Robinson added: “Understandably given the nature of this incident it will be concerning to the local community, however, I want to offer my reassurance that we have already made a number of enquiries to establish the circumstances and ascertain exactly what has happened.

“A scene guard is currently in place whilst officers continue to investigate what is believed to be an isolated incident. There will continue to be a high policing presence in the area throughout the day and evening.

Both sides of the dual carriageway remain closed

“I would encourage anyone with information, or anyone with concerns, to please come and speak to us.”

Both sides of the dual carriageway remained closed this afternoon at the western end of the junction with Summergroves Way, with the scene cordoned off.

Forensic investigators were working at the scene, with one on the central reservation and another looking at a cycle lane. A number of police vehicles were parked in and around the cordon.

Police would like to hear from anyone with information about the incident, and in particular anyone with dashcam footage. Anyone with information can call the non-emergency number 101 quoting log 86 of Wednesday 31 August.
