Hepworth’s Arcade refurb a step closer after £1.4m project approved

ARCHITECTURAL GEM: Hepworth’s Arcade

By Simon Bristow

Plans to renovate Hepworth’s Arcade have moved a step closer after the project was approved by Hull City Council’s Cabinet.

The £1.4m scheme, which was given the go-ahead at the Guildhall yesterday, will deliver essential repairs to the historic shopping parade, including damp and other maintenance work, renovating the promenade flooring, and repairing internal stonework in keeping with its heritage. It will also be fully redecorated.

This will improve the quality of the retail facilities which it is hoped will attract new businesses to fill empty units.

Funding was approved from the council’s capital programme, with an additional grant coming from Historic England.

Building and heritage surveys will now be carried out, with consultation ongoing with existing tenants.
