Ennerdale Bridge: Overnight closures to investigate fault

FAULT: Ennerdale Bridge

By Simon Bristow, Co-Editor

Ennerdale Bridge will close for two nights next week to allow for essential investigations on the lifting span.

Earlier this year, the bridge on Raich Carter Way had a fault affecting one of the lifting spans. To identify the fault and begin repairs Hull City Council must carry out essential investigations alongside the contractor, Fairfield Engineering Solutions, and Rexroth, the manufacturer of the hydraulic system.

Overnight closures will be in place on Raich Carter Way from 10pm until 6am the next day on Wednesday, September 11, and Thursday, September 12 to allow the investigations to be carried out safely and with minimal disruption to traffic.

A signed diversion route will be in place for motorists, who are urged to plan journeys in advance and use an alternative transport if possible.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transportation, roads, and highways, said: “We understand that this is a popular route for motorists, but it is crucial that these investigations are conducted and that the fault is located to maintain a safe and reliable transport link for residents, commuters, and visitors.

“While I recognise the inconvenience caused by these closures, I appreciate that they are scheduled overnight to minimise disruption.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone in advance for their patience and support.”
