400,000 attend Hull Fair, with just eight arrested

BUSY: Hull Fair proved to be as popular as ever this year

By Rick Lyon

Around 400,000 people attended Hull Fair this year and only eight arrests were made, Humberside Police have revealed.

Along with the eight arrests, 40 dispersal orders were issued throughout the week, which the force is hailing as a major success.

Chief Superintendent Christine Wilson said: “Policing such an event can present many challenges, but there were no major incidents and only a handful of arrests across the eight days.

“I would like to thank my officers and staff, our partners at Hull City Council, and the workers and visitors for their support in once again helping make this an enjoyable event for the vast majority who attended.

“I was pleased to see such positive engagement with the public and we appreciated the messages of support from people who came over to thank us for keeping them safe.

“However, my officers were on hand day and night to deal with any problems that arose.

“Across the entirety of Hull Fair, we arrested eight people and issued 40 dispersal orders. Eighteen missing people were reported to us and all were found safe and well, some within minutes.

“There were three arrests for breaching dispersal orders, one for breaching bail conditions and one person was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly. There was one arrest on suspicion of possession of drugs with intent to supply, and one person was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.”

Suspect Henry Kitchen, 21, of Walker Street, Hull, was charged with burglary after being spotted by officers at the Walton Street fair. He is due to appear at Hull Magistrates Court next month.
