BACK IN SAFE HANDS: ‘Cressy’ the Spaniel reunited with her owner

A dog stolen three months ago has been reunited with its owner after being discovered in the East Riding - 150 miles from home.

The owner, who travelled up from Northampton last night to collect her Spaniel, Cressy, had further reason to celebrate after an inspection by a vet found she was 30 days pregnant.

Although Cressy was a little underweight, she was otherwise said to be in “good health”.

Humberside Police recovered three dogs on Wednesday night following the arrest of a man in connection with theft and stolen vehicles in the East Riding.

All of the dogs were scanned for microchips and one, the Spaniel who turned out to be Cressy, had been stolen in January from an address in Northampton.

The owner was contacted by officers straight away and made the journey to collect her. She was examined by a vet today.

The other two dogs, a puppy lurcher, and a seven-year-old Chihuahua, had to be returned as neither was microchipped and there was no way of knowing if they were with their legal owners.

But they were described as “well looked after and in good health”, and a full account was given of their ownership.

The theft of Cressy is being investigated. She is reported to have been stolen and then sold via a social media trading site.

Investigations are continuing into the vehicle thefts and other offences.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “While we know in our area the numbers of dog thefts remains very low there are fears across the country about dog thefts.

“We would always advise people to only buy dogs and puppies from reputable breeders and to take basic crime prevention advice on board to prevent your dog being lost or stolen.”
