A music project which aims to extend the legacy of Hull’s year as City of Culture in 2017 will bring some of Hull’s finest musicians to St Mary’s Church in Beverley next week.

The Culture Train, which exports Hull music to towns across the East Riding, will hold its final gig of this year’s tour at the Beverley venue on Saturday, September 3, from 7.30pm.

Hull band Infidels will headline the show in a line-up that also includes The Arkut Brothers, Emma Fee, and Carrie Martin, and which will be opened by Beverley musician Laura Da Sousa.

Since 2017, the Culture Train has performed in nearly every town in the East Riding, and featured about 100 artists from Hull.

The project, devised by Chris Warkup of Quiet Riot Arts, continues to be funded by East Riding Council’s Active Creative arts fund.

Chris said: “The project was first held during 2017 help take music from the City of Culture to communities who were not touched by events linked to the year of culture such as Hutton Cranswick or Nafferton via trains running from Paragon Station along the Hull to Bridlington railway line.

The Arkut Brothers

“This is the fifth year of this project and so far around a hundred acts have performed at towns and villages across East Yorkshire, from Goole to Bridlington and Brough to Market Weighton.”

He added: “This is a great opportunity to promote Hull music outside of the city as we continue our project to bring talented musicians to churches and offer a chance to see great local music within your community once again at such a wonderful atmospheric venue.

Carrie Martin

“It is all free so check it out and a big thank you to the Active Creative fund for creating this opportunity for people to get out and see live music once again.”

The gig is free to attend and runs until 10.30pm. Refreshments will be available.
