DIED IN HOSPITAL: Steven Duffield

Police have named the 10-year-old cyclist who died in a collision with a car on Monday as Steven Duffield from Hull.

Steven, and his friend, Mason Deakin, 11, were riding the same bicycle when it collided with a blue BMW in Anlaby Road, west Hull, at 6.10pm.

Both boys were taken to hospital, where Steven died from his injuries. Mason was also badly hurt and is still receiving treatment, although his condition is now described as “serious” rather than life-threatening, police said.

A 30-year-old man arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving offences has been released under investigation as inquiries continue.

A spokesman for Humberside Police said: “Steven’s family continue to receive support at this difficult time from our specially trained officers, and are grateful for all the messages of the love and support pouring in from the public.

“The collision investigation continues and we are still appealing for any information, witnesses or dash cam footage of the incident, or moments prior. Anyone who can help with our inquiries is asked to call our non-emergency number 101, quoting log 488 of 19 October.”
