The new Chief Constable of Humberside Police has been confirmed as Chris Todd.
Mr Todd had been Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner Jonathan Evison’s preferred candidate, and his appointment has now been confirmed following a meeting of the Humberside Police and Crime Panel.
The panel unanimously endorsed Mr Evison’s proposal following a question and answer session between members and Mr Todd.
He will assume command of the force on April 7, on a five-year contract.
Mr Todd, currently Assistant Chief Constable of Police Service Northern Ireland, will succeed Judi Heaton, who has been in the role temporarily since last July. Her appointment followed the sudden retirement of Paul Anderson, who is being investigated for alleged misconduct.
Mr Todd said: “I want to thank Judi for her outstanding commitment, professionalism and leadership at a time when Humberside Police really needed someone to step up. Judi did just that, showing what a dedicated public servant she is.
“I am delighted and hugely honoured that the Police and Crime Panel have endorsed the commissioner’s decision to appoint me as the next Chief Constable. I intend to bring consistent, stable and ethical leadership to build on the excellent work that is already being delivered every day.
“Through my leadership, I will be striving to make Humberside Police an outstanding, globally acclaimed police service which is victim-focused, community-focused and workforce-focused.
“I want the people across Hull, East Yorkshire, North and North East Lincolnshire to be proud of the service they receive and the service be proud of itself.”
Mr Evison said: “I am delighted that the Police and Crime Panel have recognised the high calibre of my preferred candidate, and that this officially marks the end of the selection process for Chief Constable of Humberside Police.
“I look forward to working with Chris Todd to serve our communities.
“The performance of Humberside Police has continued to improve and remains the highest performing force in the country, with three ‘outstanding’ gradings from the independent inspectorate.
“Our communities deserve the best service, and I will be challenging Mr Todd to continue this trajectory for the force so that the public continue to see sustainable improvements in service.
“I am confident he is the Chief Constable our area needs, and I look forward to working together to provide the best possible service for our communities.”
