Channel 4 News will host a live TV debate in Hull on the evening of Tuesday, April 29 – and is inviting residents to be part of the audience.

It will be a “Question Time”-type format featuring a panel of five “big name” politicians from each of the main parties and an audience of about 50 who will have the chance to put them on the spot.

The main theme will be national issues relating to local elections being held across England on May 1. But the programme said it had chosen Hull as the location as it’s “politically interesting with the important vote on the new position of mayor due to take place”.

The discussion will not be limited to what’s going on in Hull. “We hope this will be a chance to get a feel for how people are thinking ahead of the first major test at the ballot box of the present Government,” a spokeswoman said.

The panel will be announced nearer the time.
