Celebrations of student success at Bishop Burton College

ACHIEVEMENT: Bishop Burton College’s sports hall was transformed to host the celebration events

By Rick Lyon, Co-Editor

Bishop Burton College hosted students, friends and family, industry partners and special guests for four special events over two days to celebrate student success.

The annual celebration events are an opportunity to recognise and applaud the hard work of students completing their qualifications.

This year, the college hosted the events in its sports hall, which was transformed into a special venue.

Following a warm welcome from chair of governors Ian Sackree at each event, further education students completing courses in a range of subjects including agriculture, animal management, equine, sport, engineering, art and design, public services and health and social care received certificates of achievement.

Several students also received individual honours, including Best Student for the relevant curriculum areas and several specialist trophies, presented by principal and chief executive Bill Meredith, who is retiring this month.

There was also a special Creative Writing award introduced this year in memory of English lecturer Alex Ramsden.

Mr Sackree told students: “We live in a challenging world but I am confident you are prepared for whatever you do next, whether going into employment or onto further study, thanks to your time with us.

“You will always be a part of the Bishop Burton family as alumni of the college and welcome here any time, but I know you are now ready to take forward all of the skills, knowledge and resilience you have acquired into your future career.

“A huge thanks to your family and friends for all their support and, of course, the amazing team at Bishop Burton College.”

The ceremonies were followed by afternoon tea, giving students the chance to mingle and celebrate with family, friends and the Bishop Burton team.

Mr Meredith said: “Huge congratulations to all of the students completing their studies.

“They have been on a journey of discovery, overcoming challenges and developing new skills. All should be incredibly proud of their achievements and enjoy their moment in the spotlight.

“Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the Bishop Burton team, I am confident they are fully prepared for the future, and I wish them all the very best for their careers or continuing education.”
