ROADWORKS: The A63 Castle Street

Motorists, residents and businesses are being encouraged to use a new interactive tool to provide feedback on the £355m A63 Castle Street upgrade.

Highways England is creating a new junction by lowering the level of Hull’s busiest road at the Mytongate junction, as well as carrying out a host of other works which will aim to improve access to the port, reduce congestion, and enhance connections between the city centre and tourist facilities.

It has now launched a new feedback tool, called ECHO, to enable people to inform the construction team of their thoughts about the works.

Highways England Senior Project Manager James Leeming said: “We work really hard to reach out to road users, residents and other stakeholders but this new tool gives people an extra way to let us know about something.

“ECHO is a great addition to the A63 Castle Street project because it uses an interactive map which means people can pinpoint the area of the issue they’d like to raise.

“We’ve done some incredible work already on the project, including the opening of Murdoch’s Connection footbridge, the fascinating, ongoing archaeology work at the Trinity Burial Ground, and we’re progressing well with work around the Mytongate junction.

“All feedback is welcomed as we want to help people shape our decision-making process and to make sure we do the right thing.”

FEEDBACK: The interactive ECHO tool

ECHO stands for ‘Every Customer Has an Opinion’ and the A63 Castle Street upgrade is one of the first schemes of its kind in the country to use it.

The tool includes an interactive map allowing people to comment on specific aspects of the scheme, which is due to be completed in a year’s time.

Once submitted online, the comments are passed directly to the project team, allowing them to quickly put right any issues.

Customer Service Manager at Highways England, Emma Jobin, said: “We want to make a difference for our customers.

“The feedback we get from ECHO helps us improve and we can share this with Highways England projects.”

The tool has so far been used on projects in the West Midlands and North West and is now set to be rolled out further later this year.
