Spring is here! Family fun at Bishop Burton College this weekend
Bishop Burton College is opening its campus up to the public this weekend as it hosts its first Spring Live event.
Building on the success of the hugely popular Lambing Sunday, which was held annually for a number of years, Spring Live is being billed as an exciting new family day out.
It is being held on Sunday and will allow the public to explore the picturesque campus grounds and enjoy an array of family-orientated entertainment.
Visitors will be able to head to the farm to witness live lambing in the lambing shed and see the newly hatched game chicks.
Activities will include hands-on animal feeding experiences, an obstacle course, tractor display, mini tractors, creepy crawly and reptile encounters, slime making, test tube plants, a mechanical horse and archery.
There will also be bricklaying, bushcraft skills, cooking, flower arranging and arts and crafts to enjoy.
In addition, students and staff at the land-based college, near Beverley, will be showcasing its state-of-the-art robotics and technology in its purpose-built Institute of Technology (IoT) and hosting tours of its kennels, where dog grooming demonstrations will be taking place.
Show jumping and high energy barrel racing will also be on offer in the Equine Arena.
Bill Meredith, Principal and Chief Executive of Bishop Burton College, said: “I’m delighted to invite the public to come and join us for this new and exciting event.
“Lambing Sunday was always a highlight of the year for the college and we’re confident Spring Live will be even more entertaining.
“We have some fantastic new experiences for people to enjoy, alongside firm Lambing Sunday favourites.
“We look forward to welcoming the local community back onto the campus to celebrate all that is special about springtime in the countryside”
Farm Manager James Richardson said: “There’s nothing more special than witnessing a live birth and I can’t wait to welcome the local community onto the farm to share these amazing moments with us.
“Whilst there will be no cuddling of the little ones this year, you’ll still be able to get a good view of our new arrivals for a cute fix!”
The event is being sponsored by East Riding Council, in conjunction with the East Riding of Yorkshire Rural Partnership, which will both be represented on-site throughout the day. They will be launching a competition to design artwork for the new East Riding of Yorkshire Rural Strategy.
Sir Ian Macdonald of Sleat, Chairman of the East Riding of Yorkshire Rural Partnership, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Bishop Burton College on this amazing community event. What better place to kick-start our fantastic art competition in conjunction with our new rural strategy.
“Visitors will have no shortage of inspiration to bring the positive strategies and plans for our rural communities to life.”
Spring Live will open at 10.30am and close at 3pm. Tickets cost £7 for adults, £5 for children and a family ticket for four is available for advance purchases via Eventbrite.
