Appeal after elderly man ‘spat at and assaulted’

The victim was reversing his car out of Walgrave Street, close to the junction with Newland Avenue, because of a broken down vehicle and came close to where a man was crossing.
It was reported that as the man was crossing he became angry and aggressive with the driver.
He wound his window down to apologise, but the man spat at him and damaged his car, police said.
The man then got out of his car and was assaulted, leaving him needing medical treatment for serious injuries.
The incident happened at about 10.45am on Tuesday.
