Legendary Hull music venue The Adelphi has been named UK Grassroots Venue of the Year at the Music Week Annual Awards for 2022.

The ceremony, which recognises brilliance across the entire spectrum of the UK music industry, took place last night at Battersea Evolution London, and was hosted by Munya Chawawa.

The UK Grassroots Venue of the Year Award was open to a public vote and supported by the Music Venue Trust. The Adelphi was voted best grassroots venue against highly respected opposition including, Night & Day Café Manchester, Rescue Rooms Nottingham, Sneaky Pete’s Edinburgh, and The Boileroom Guildford to name but a few.

An Adelphi spokesperson said: “We are humbled to receive such a prestigious award and would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone nationwide who voted for our small, 200 capacity community music venue in Hull.

“We would like to thank Music Week, Music Venue Trust, and all the artists, promoters and music lovers who have supported the converted terraced house that is The New Adelphi Club over the last 38 years.

“Big love goes out to all the grassroots venues around the UK who perform such a valuable service to the music industry and yet struggle from week to week for survival. Well done to all the other contenders in this category - it is an honour to be in your company.”

The statement added: “A special thank you to all the staff who have worked at The Adelphi Club over the last four decades. Peace.”
