Open gardens events to help charities blossom

GLIMPSE BEYOND THE GATE: Avenues Open Gardens starts this Sunday

By Rick Lyon, Co-Editor

The popular Avenues Open Gardens events are back for another year, raising money for local charities Dove House Hospice and Rooted in Hull.

The events, on Sunday, June 30, and Sunday, July 7, see residents in the Avenues and surrounding areas in west Hull open their gardens and homes to the public.

This year, around 50 private gardens are open for visitors to enjoy the diversity of gardening styles and unique architecture of the buildings, as well as entertainment being provided by residents.

Dan Clipson, senior fundraiser at Dove House Hospice, said: “It is wonderful to see the Avenues community rally together in aid of worthwhile local charities in Dove House Hospice and Rooted in Hull.

COMMUNITY: Visitors can enjoy private gardens

“Raising awareness and funds for our services is of huge importance to allow us to continue providing care across Hull and East Yorkshire free of charge.

“Last year’s Open Gardens raised an incredible amount of over £9,000 for the hospice, so we would encourage as many people as possible to visit this wonderful snapshot of community life in the HU5 area.”

Tickets are priced at £5 per adult and accompanied children go free. Maps and tickets can be purchased at any garden displaying an Avenues Open Gardens poster on each day, or in advance from Dove House shops on the Avenues, in Hull city centre, Beverley or Hessle.
